Wilkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome! This joint production celebrates Krannert Center’s 50-year partnership with the School of Music, Lyric Theatre @ Illinois, Illinois Theatre, and Dance at Illinois. In a historical moment marching toward unimagined horrors, a sexually free cabaret emcee guides us on a journey through the lives of the naïve, the passive, the respectable, the nationalistic, the fervent, and the optimistic while exposing the hypocrisy of the Nazi party’s decadence before its power crashes down upon them in 1930 Berlin.
Come to the Cabaret and see the sexy, seedy Kit Kat dancers, doomed lovers Frau Schneider and Herr Schultz, and the inimitable Sally Bowles. With classic songs (“Maybe This Time,” “Two Ladies,” and of course the title song), fresh choreography, and an emphasis on the humanity of life in the Weimar Republic, this collaboration is sure to enchant.
This performance includes smoke, haze, violence, nudity, and profanity.
This performance will last approximately two hours and 35 minutes including a 20-minute intermission.
CABARET is presented by arrangement with TAMS-WITMARK. www.tamswitmark.com
